3: A December Wedding

No, it’s not a wedding for me. ::le sigh::

I have a lovely cousin who’s getting married this December. I am out of shape. So, I did a thing.

Now, hear me out. Hear me out. This is only a temporary thing.

I’m usually a 98% vegetarian/ 2% meat-eater. There is no philosophy behind this–I’m just not a big meat-eater. I haven’t eaten pork in God-knows-how-many-decades and up until recently, red meat was a once in a while occasion.

Like most women (I think), I struggle with weight-loss. My old doctors always opined it had to do with my age. At 19, 21, 25, 28, and 30, it was always, “You’re not in high school anymore.” Apparently, I’m not young and I’ve never been young.

For the next four weeks (until my birthday), I’ve decided to try a modified keto diet. What I mean by modified is, my carbs won’t be as low as the 25g required for ketosis; I clock in at about 45g which is plenty enough considering I probably used to eat around 300g (don’t judge me). It’s been a week and there are two problems: 1) This is way more meat than I anticipated and 2) The darn thing works.

In the past years, I was an avid exerciser and lost no weight. A super-conscious dieter and lost no weight. And now, here I am, eating fat, the one thing I’ve always avoided…and I’m losing weight.

(Where’s the emojis when you need them?)

I’ll keep you guys updated. I went from 185.4 last Monday to 183.4 this Monday. At the end of October, I’ll check my HbA1c, Triglycerides, and LDLs for any movement. I’m also on MyFitnessPal and Twinbody.

How have your health goals been going?

Alex

  1. Understand your pain! Did keto last month, lost a bunch then put it right back on when family came to visit. I’m now doing intermittent fasting, 16/8 with low carbs during the week and exercise. So far it’s working and I can have bad carbs here and there without going back to square one in weight. I’m 45 and although I want to lose weight I’m a foodie and I want to live, not just exist. Hang in there!
